Winning the Lottery

To this day, I have never bought a lottery ticket. But I don’t have enough fingers and toes for the amount of times I’ve had the conversation, “What would you do if you won the lottery?” Pretty hard to win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket. And not because I don’t want to, I just don’t know how to. And I haven’t built the courage to go buy my first one.
Okay, but what I really want to talk about is the BIG dreams we have for when we win the lottery. I think the most popular question is “Will you still work?” Would you?? I absolutely would. Maybe only 15 hours a week and it would be more for my social well-being. These dreams also usually include some big purchases like a new car, house and some adventure toys. AND a big vacation for myself and friends. Oh and don’t forget to donate to your favourite charity/non-profit… (not only would this be great contribution to your community but also, it will help come tax season lol)
Okay, okay, okay... but for the REAL question. Why do we only have these dreams if we win the lottery? Why don’t we have these dreams for real life without winning the lottery? If I can dream it, it can happen. Wouldn’t you agree? With some hard work and discipline you can make a lot of dreams happen. Maybe even with a little financial advice or direction. So maybe I won’t have the four bedroom yacht with a ballroom and disco ball, a nanny and a fully stocked open bar. But I can settle for a 20-foot Four Winns that my friends and I can waterski off the back of. And maybe instead of taking 15 friends on the trip of a lifetime, I take my family on the experience of a lifetime. Notice I said experience instead of trip….because I don’t necessarily need to go anywhere. And by “my family”, as a 30 year old never married with no kids, I mean myself. And maybe Amy and Freddy if they are lucky.
Take a look at the people surrounding us. If it’s something we aspire to do, it’s likely because we’ve seen someone else do it. Do you think they won the lottery to get to where they are today? In some cases maybe yes, but more often than not, NOOO. So let’s buckle down and go for our dreams. And if we win the lottery, great. I’ll definitely take those friends on a trip - you know how you are ;)
